Sage Deals The Industry a Royal Flush In Hardcore

Without doubt these latest generation Dodge CTD trucks are mind blowingly capable. Huge power can be tapped out of the Cummins plant with simple electronics. The chassis is as strong as they come... and rolling the latest 11.5" clutch-less LSD rear end, it's the perfect platform to turn into a Carli project. This is the latest release of Sage's expertise... come ride shotgun in CT McDonald's Dodge 2500 HD Megacab.

This truck was outfitted with Carli's Advanced Dominator 3.0 Suspension System, sporting 3" King Off Road Shocks on all 4 corners, amongst some prototype goodies. This rig is showcasing some of the lastest componentry Sage is working on. Glass Works fenders, Walker Evans bead-lock wheels powder coated black, rolling 37" Toyo MT's - this truck is leading the consumer market in baddass.

Carli Suspension, Inc took this truck into their shop and installed the Advanced Dominator 3.0 System, Fiberglass (and a couple other goodies that will be released shortly) in just a few days, and off she went to the body shop for finish and paint.

All that was left to do was test the rig. The location? Johnson Valley OHV. The terrain? The gnarliest whoop section of MDR's 2007 McKenzie's 400 course. The customer team loaded up some camera equipment, a few refreshments and the usual desert supply of tools and save your ass gear. What happens next, is simply ridiculous.

A perfect southern California morning and a caravan lead CT's truck to the destination. Driving into the OHV, being mindful of other desert enthusiasts, it was difficult to keep from prematurely getting into Sage's latest creation. It wasn't long before we found our grid. Loading up GPS coordinates and reading topographical map, close friend and event coordinator showed the crew where we were going to run if we were going to test this hardware properly. All that was left to do was rig up and see how Sage builds trucks. We scouted the run with a stock 2006 Dodge CTD Megacab and the long wheel base and lack of ground clearance left its belly dragging on the deepest sections, simply driving the cameras to their locations. This wasn't washboard.

First Run

CT entered the section and it was deceiving at how well the truck took the constant volley of whoop after whoop. There was no feedback in the steering wheel, the dual stabilizers kept the handshake between driver and those Toyo's locked on target. As the cameras rolled Owner/Driver CT McDonald increased the intensity of his argument with the desert floor, while driver of the sighting vehicle looked over at the speedometer remembering dragging on the same whoops at 15 mph, CT pushed passed 50 and the truck took flight.

Launching an 8,000 pound package, 2 feet above the whoops, the Monster re-engaged the earth while Carli's Dominator System faultlessly answered the call. Run after run, camera angle after camera angle the crew let the Cummins motor eat its lunch that day and come back for seconds. Backed by a 5-disk TC under lock up control, the power delivery was relentless and so was the rock floor of the Johnson Valley OHV.

The Bank's custom exhaust growled as the pedal was mashed deeper towards the floor and the afternoon began to take shape. Having no previous experience running a truck that size, this hard through terrain that big was an eye opener for all who witnessed. A KX-500 ran next to the rig on a pass taking the whoops in fluid stride, while Carli's latest Monster pounded back at everything that was thrown at it. The tires contacted the dirt and almost immediately took flight again as each run's speed was exponentially increased. Inside the cab, you could hear hydraulic compression from the bump stops and it was clear that the engineer behind the product did his homework, this truck was getting beaten over the toughest terrain within a couple hours from Orange County and every component worked in concert rendering a desert experience like no other.

Superior Construction

The weight of the Cummins Diesel is no small task for Sage's front suspension set up, shown here is the left front Walker Evans sitting on the crest of a 3 foot high whoop. Demonstrating the load the Carli Dominator 3.0 was under. That's 22" of custom coil spring, a foot of travel provided by the 3" King shocks, backed by an additional 2.5" of hydraulic bump stop, which still put a 37" Toyo MT running 40 PSI, flat on the deck.

This would have destroyed an inferior suspension system.

Superior Engineering

As each run passed, Sage's latest innovation proved battle worthiness. Demonstrated above are two shots of Carli's hydraulic bump stops in action. The only hydraulic set up that DOES NOT reduce the amount of wheel travel. Another industry first for Sage Carli.

Watch the Video

We couldn't believe what we did to this truck. After watching the video footage, there was nothing left. Sage Carli just dealt the industry a Royal Flush in hardcore.
