Dominator 3.0 Dodge Ram Suspension System
The 3.0 series are designed for the customer who wants the ultimate suspension package. Built to support heavy to race off-road conditions with outstanding street performance. This system is designed for drivability, race/chase support applications and aggressive off-road use, still rendering impeccable street characteristics and handling. This is the most advanced performance system available... the next step up from the Carli Dominator system would require a roll cage and race set up. Essentially this system is a stock full class system. Utilizes King Off Road 3.0 custom race shocks.
Carli Suspension Total Control Piston
All Dominator 3.0 suspension systems come with Carli's total control piston designs.
Each shock valve profile is proprietary and was thoroughly tested for performance gains. Each of the systems at Carli Suspension are developed to maximize the on-road performance, first, then it is put through the off-road development process. This is a standard design cycle that renders the ride quality for the real world. Each shock that is delivered, gets installed on a company vehicle and tested on the street. The testing is performed with the actual component family that makes up the suspension system. This allows the ride quality to be evaluated as the system is sold to customers. Valve profile adjustments are made, and then the shocks are re-installed on the test vehicle for another round of road performance evaluation. This cycle continues until the ride quality is perfect for daily use.
Once the system is set up, it is then tested in an off-road environment for further refinement. Off-road testing involves the conditions and terrain that the system is designed for. A progressive testing method that encompasses well maintained to semi-maintained dirt roads, all the way up to open desert in Baja Mexico, depending on which system is in development.
King 3.0 vs. Bilstein 2.65
In the spectrum of performance and comfort, choosing between these two shocks really comes down to one thing, preference. They'll deliver more dampening than you'd want to put up with, and both are incredible performers. The difference is initial dampening response and feel. The Bilstein piston builds pressure immediately, where the Carli/King piston ramps up smoothly - so what this translates to is seat-of-your-pants feel. The King is smoother on initial compression dampening, so some of the small road chatter or cracks and uneven surfaces aren't even felt - where the Bilstein makes your truck feel so glued to the road, it's a more "active" ride. So it really is a matter of how you want your truck to feel when you're driving, once you get off the pavement, these two could very well have a knock down drag out brawl and there will not be one clear victor. Choosing your shock in this case is matter of considering how you want your truck to ride where and how you drive it. Some people don't like a super alert BMW-esq feel, where other's prefer it. Another area where this can be compared is when you turn in quickly and weight has to transfer in corners and adjustments; the Bilstein delivers an immediate response and the King feels a split second behind, but, comes in with a smoother compression curve. Both shocks are right there when it comes to street/dirt performance and each has it's own individual ride signature, how do you want your truck to feel?
Dodge Ram Suspension Testing
Once the drivability and off-road characteristics are refined, the system will be abuse tested for durability and strength. Testing the 3.0 series under extreme conditions resulted in the truck surrendering before any suspension components did. This also provides a platform for additional product development. It is necessary to find the limits and extend them, a hallmark of the Carli Suspension product development cycle.
Carli Suspension performs professional, technically enabled, product testing. These mediums ensure that each system is rendering the highest performance on the market, from driving to the office... all the way to leaving the ground over desert terrain.
Suspension Advancements Through Onboard Media
This final production field test with onboard video and photography is an industry advancement of Carli's own. Collecting field data in this manner allows refinement that wasn't possible before. Each system must demonstrate excellence prior to being offered to the public.
Can You Mob It?
Scoring the cover shot of Off Road Magazine in February 2008, we took our first Dominator 3.0 build and sky'd it for the truth test. Since the "Dodge Ram Mega Huck" we have refined the King Shock valve profile even further through a dozen improvements. The trucks are twice as capable with each phase of development... even since this.
In The Press
Off Road Magazine puts Sage's flying Megacab on the cover of the February 2008 issue. Read the entire day's account and how the event built up. It has it all... the story, the photos and how we kept it safe.
Diesel Power Magazine showcases the Carli Suspension Dominator 3.0. The market's FIRST Dodge Ram 3.0" bolt-on shock system - Carli Suspension, Inc did it first.
This truck was outfitted with Carli's Advanced Dominator 3.0 Suspension System, sporting 3" King Off Road Shocks on all 4 corners, amongst some prototype goodies. This rig is showcasing some of the latest componentry Sage is working on. Glass Works fenders, Walker Evans bead-lock wheels powder coated black, rolling 37" Toyo MT's - this truck is leading the consumer market in baddass
We couldn't believe what we did to this truck. After watching the video footage, there was nothing left. Sage Carli just dealt the industry a Royal Flush in hardcore.
Before Carli Suspension, you had two choices... massive off-road gains, or a comfortable street drive. Would you want to commute to work on the 91 freeway in a stock full race truck? F*CK NO!.. On the other hand, would you ever take a stock Dodge Ram and hit up a desert race course?.. so what does that leave us with? 90% of the time driving the truck, it rides comfortably and quiet... or 10% of the time it takes big bumps in stride... but somewhere in this equation is a huge sacrifice... NOT ANYMORE!
2007 Dodge 2500 HD Megacab that drives from Corona to Downtown Los Angeles every day... but can you mob it? You tell me...
Once in a while we head out to the dirt and just have to play... today was one of those days. Taking an opportunity to make a positive community impact, we brought a member of the Big Brothers of America and a special little boy got to experience an exhilarating ride in a Dodge Ram, built by Carli Suspension, Inc. Maintaining family values while testing our latest shock tuning was a perfect excuse to spend the day with friends, family and (of course) a video camera... watch 100 mph runs across the southern california desert in a Dominator 3.0 equipped Dodge Ram.
After various shock tuning sessions, we get the trucks into the dirt and test it on the bumps at high speed. Here we are testing a long wheel base, Dodge Ram Megacab in Glamis. Holding 80+ mph over decent size whoops, the truck rides level and soaks up everything we go over. Tuning the King Race Shocks is a constant work cycle at Carli Suspension, Inc and the more we learn, the faster our trucks get in the dirt and smoother they get on the freeway drive home... the best of both worlds.
Carli Suspension tests locally, such as this afternoon in the sand, and all the way to the rigors of Baja... short clips like this allow us to view the attitude of the truck at high speeds.
